Orthopaedic Bracing Through Ossür:
Pre and post-operative
If you are currently waiting for a knee surgery or if
your doctor has talked to you about the possibility
of having a repair or replacement surgery in the
future; a customized knee brace is a great option
to help make the time leading up to your surgery
more comfortable and help you to perform your
activities of daily living with more confidence.
Those that struggle with daily pain and
limitations due to their knee(s)
If you are dealing with knee pain and aren’t able to
perform your everyday activities due to a knee
injury whether it be new or old; a custom knee
brace can help take pressure and load off of the
knee to prevent further damage and in turn,
alleviate your pain.
Someone who is already receiving treatment but
wants some addition support
Maybe you are wanting to add onto the rehabilitation
plan you are currently doing. Most practitioners suggest
a home exercise program for those struggling with
acute and chronic knee pain. A custom knee brace can
help you feel more confident in your movements and
also to align the knee properly to help the right muscles
engage during each exercise.

Cole’s lifelong passion for the intricate relationship between the human body, one’s health & performance serves as the cornerstone of what guides his practice today. Through this deep understanding, Cole provides individuals with the knowledge to appreciate how the body will adapt to both their physical and mental stressors to not only achieve their immediate health goals but also develop their long-term health and vitality.

Cole’s chiropractic journey began at the University of Calgary, where he pursued his undergraduate studies with a major in Exercise Physiology & a minor in Biological Anthropology. Throughout his undergraduate degree, he delved into various health & development internships, including a year-long commitment involving the treatment and training of high-caliber hockey and baseball players. His active participation in multiple levels of ice hockey, including Jr hockey, helped provide valuable insight into the body’s nuanced responses to stressors both physiologically and psychologically along with the correlation these stressors have in everyday injuries. Application of this fundamental knowledge learned throughout his undergraduate program allowed him to further delve into the intricacies of the human body while completing his chiropractic doctorate at the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon.

Throughout his schooling and involvement in sports, Cole has developed extensive knowledge in treating patients that have sustained either sport-related or work-related injuries, along with those that occur in everyday life. Although many people believe that chiropractic manipulation is limited to the treatment of the spine, Cole excels in the treatment of injuries that have impacted your extremities, including but not limited to your shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. Cole has a strong passion for fitness that reflects in his comprehensive rehabilitation programs. With a patient-centered focus, he will help to guide you through a full-scale program that allows individuals to restore their quality of life and function efficiently at a pre-injury status. Cole’s treatment approach encompasses spinal & extra-spinal manipulation, active soft tissue release techniques, instrument-assisted release, movement-specific exercises, in addition to patient education that provides an explanation of your diagnosis and treatment plan. A thorough understanding of the issue you are experiencing is crucial in expediting the healing process as this knowledge will aid the decision-making process to ensure alignment with both your short and long-term goals.

As clinical Director and founder of Active Health & Wellness Clinic and MotionFIT Athletics, Dr. Starr’s comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach blends state of the art technology with modern chiropractic care.

From early on Dr. Sean Starr was interested in health & Fitness. He grew up in Victoria, BC where he was actively involved in many sports including soccer, hockey, golf, baseball, and weight training. During these competitive activities he gained a greater appreciation for the biomechanics of the human body, sports performance and injury prevention / rehab. He did four years of undergraduate studies working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree. Following that he was accepted at Western States University in Portland, Oregon where he spent an additional four years completing his education to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

When working with you as a patient his treatment plans are always designed to be the most tried and tested ways to help you reach your personal health related goals. His approach to treatment is best described as a biomechanical approach that is evidence based (supported by scientific studies). He is one of a select few chiropractors here in Victoria fully certified in Active Release Techniques (see www.activerelease.com for more info). This is the gold standard in soft tissue treatments that both locates and breaks down adhesions and scar tissue which are causing pain, stiffness, weakness, numbness, and physical dysfunction. Dr. Starr combines this with Chiropractic adjustments to restore freedom and motion to a specific joint or area. These treatments are supplemented with modalities such as ultrasound, electrotherapy, laser therapy or decompression therapy to assist with the pain relief and tissue healing. Dr. Starr also gives his patients lifestyle recommendations and specific rehabilitation exercises are prescribed to treat and prevent the condition from returning. Through a very thorough history and examination, Dr. Starr will get to the root cause of your problem and provide you with the diagnosis and treatment for the specific symptoms of your condition. His goal is to help you live an active, pain free and healthy lifestyle and be able do the activities you are passionate about for as long as you are wishing to do so.

In order to provide his patients with the most up to date ways to improve performance, reduce injuries and increase mobility Dr. Starr has partnered up with Fusionetics, an elite sports science company from the US. This resulted in the development of MotionFIT Athletics to offer active individuals between 8-88 the most effective way to Move Better, Perform Stronger and Recover Faster in their sport or activity of choice.
